The next two weeks at Stepping Stones.

In the Yellow Room

January 15th – 26th

Over the next two weeks in the baby room, we will be doing a lot of activities on exploratory play, this will encourage the babies to use different body parts to explore and feel the different textures of objects/materials some of these will be water, paint, beans etc.

Also on various days, we will be having a non-plastic day, where our play will be based around heuristic play, this is the process in which children explore differing ways to use everyday objects in their play.

For our younger babies, there will be once again more tummy time activities, looking at increasing their muscle strength and encouraging their ability to begin to crawl.

In Red Room

During the next two weeks Red Room will continue to focus on learning different body parts, such as head, toes, ears and nose while also encouraging other language.

Activities will include sensory play, for example finger, hand and foot painting. Flash cards and mirrors will also be used as a way of showing the children different body parts.

Our song of the month will remain as head, shoulders knees and toes, which will the children have really enjoyed since returning from Christmas.

In Green Room 1 & 2

In Green Room 1, we will be looking at real fruit and vegetables. We will also be making our own fruit salad with the children to eat at tea time.

We will also be using playdough to role play with, whilst also making food shapes out of playdough.

The keywords which we be focusing on are, big, little, pour, mix, eat and cook.

In Green Room 2 our the words we will be looking at are full, empty, more, rolling, push, pull, cows, pigs, sheep, and hay. Our activities will include, sand and water play which will involve the filling and emptying of different containers. We will also be playing with plastic farm animals in hay, reinforcing our key words of the next two weeks.

All of our activities in Green Room 1 and 2 are based around the first 100 words to develop your child’s language.

In the Pre-School

Book

In Blue Room 1 we are going to be reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, we will be fruit tasting and talking about where it grows, making props from the books, creating caterpillars out of playdough and even looking for some caterpillars in our bottom garden!

In Blue Room 2 we are reading ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’, we are going to make props such as the Giants shoe. A story board will also be created, this will allow us to show the timeline of the story, allowing us to ask the children what happens next, helping the development of memory skills, our story also links into our skill of the week discussed below.

In Blue Room 3 we are reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, we will be creating puppets and reliving the story through role play.

Letter/Phoneme

In Blue Room 1 our letter of the week is Hh In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Kk In Blue Room 3 our letter of the week is Rr

We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.

Number

In Blue Room 1 our number is 8 In Blue Room 2 our number is 8 In Blue Room 3 our number is 10

Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching, helping your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aid in their mathematical development, in all rooms we will be counting to our number, the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.) Looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.

Skill

In Blue Room 1 we are still looking at patterns, we are using our hands and fingers to print patterns and make our caterpillars linking back to our book for the next two weeks, we are also going to be using Duplo to make our own patterns and singing our pattern action song.

In Blue Room 2 we will be looking at length, weight and height, this will be reinforced through the reading of the book we are focusing on, we are also going to be using lots of maths equipment such as scales, rulers, tape measure etc, all the activities will help us to introduce and develop words such as wide, narrow, heavy, light etc.

In Blue Room 3 we are exploring why some objects we have in our room sink, and some of them float, we will obviously be discussing why and what makes, an object sink or float, asking your children questions about objects around your house will help to reinforce our teaching.

Please take the time to read our plans for Story Telling Week w/c 29/01/2018 we would love for you to come and join us for at least one activity.
