18/06/2018 – Stepping Stones – The Next Fortnight

Updates and Notices

As the weather is getting hotter, please can all parents bring in hats and sun cream for your children.

In the Yellow Room

Over the next two weeks yellow room will be focusing on lots of sensory play. We will be using sensory hoops and sensory bags to help develop fine and gross motor skills. Walkers will also be out in the room, this encourages the children to walk and build their core strength. The children will also be exploring the different noises that objects and toys around the room make.

Could all parents bring in family photos for your child. We are going to be making some shaker bottles with your pictures on over the next two weeks. Please email or bring photos in ([email protected])

In Red Room 1 & 2

In Red Room 1 we will be focusing on interaction with others. We will achieve this by providing a variety of activities based on children’s interests. Such as playdough, water play, sand play, cornflour dancing and more. There will also be lots of physical play, linking back to our words; up, down, in, out, gone and more.

In Red Room 2 we are exploring different sensory materials such as; beans, water painting, cornflour and sand. We are working on supporting pretend play by adding in cooking equipment, mixing, filling and emptying. The children will be doing lots of physical play. Balancing on beams, climbing and throwing and catching our balls.

Our words for the next fortnight based on the first 100 words are; up, down, on, in, cold, hot, wet.

We are also still asking parent’s to share family photos for our display, which can be brought in or emailed to [email protected]

In Green Room 1 & 2

In Green Room 1, we will be using playdough to make believe. Using our imaginations to cook different foods and then having a picnic. Our new language is; squash, squeeze, roll, push and pull.

In Green Room 2, we will focus on creative/messy play and self helping skills. The creative play will help us develop both mark making and fine motor skills. We are going to use words such as; on, off, up, down, turn, around, big and little.

We will be using the first 100 words in both our Green Rooms, if you would like a copy to support your child’s development please ask a member of staff.

In the Pre-School

Fortnightly Book

‘Foggy Foggy Forest’ is Blue room 1’s book, they will be creating a story map and making sentences using the ‘Oxford Tree Reading Book’

In Blue Room 2 ‘Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose’ is our fortnightly book. We will be making chocolate mousse and looking at the characters and the key events in the book.

Blue Room 3 will be reading ‘The Three Little Pigs’. The children will be building the three houses using straws, sticks and bricks (duplo).

Letter/Phoneme

Our letter of the week is Ff in Blue Room 1

In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Uu

Bb is the letter of the week in Blue Room 3

We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.

Number

Our number of the week is 7 in Blue Room 1

In Blue Room 2 our number is 6

3 is the number of the week in Blue Room 3

Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching. This helps your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aids in their mathematical development. In all rooms we will be counting to our number. Talking about the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.). Also looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.

Skill

In Blue Room 1 our children will be looking at comparing and measuring. We will be making height charts and comparing objects to see what is larger/smaller etc.

Representation of numbers is the focus for Blue Room 2’s children. They will be learning dice patters and looking at tally charts and number lines.

In Blue Room 3 the children will be studying sizes (big, medium, small). We will be comparing and organising objects we find in and around the nursery.

Homework sheets for the Pre-School are available in both the rooms and on the door in a plastic wallet. Please ask your room leader for a sheet if you cannot find one.
