04/12/2018 – Over the next two weeks we are focusing all of our activities around Christmas!

The next two weeks at Stepping Stones.

In the Yellow Room

Over the next two weeks in the yellow room, all our activities are based around Christmas!

December 4th – 15th

We will be introducing more sensory play, for example spaghetti and wet sand for all babies to experiment with encouraging them to start making marks, we will also be making Christmas cards and decorations.

We will be encouraging babies to pull themselves up on to the furniture and to start taking steps using the walkers provided. We will also be exploring treasure baskets and exploratory play.

Al activities are based around the first 100 words and help encourage noise making.

In Red Room

In the next two weeks, in the red room we are focusing on animals as the children are showing high interest in all of our animal toys. This will include activities such as playing with sea animals in water and sand, farm animals in hay/grass. We will be using flash cards to match our animals with the matching word/sound.

We will also be introducing our song of the month which is ‘Old McDonald’
All these activities enhance the toddler’s speech as we will be using words such as; little, big, dry, wet, up and down.

We will also be starting our Christmas cards for those who celebrate and various other creative activities such as hand and feet painting which not only encourages creativity it links to our next steps on sensory play.

In Green Room 1 & 2

Christmas has well and truly started! We will be doing activities such as calendars and decorating our Christmas tree in our room.

In Green Room 1 we will also continue to have our car track out, focusing on our key words such as; stop, go, fast and slow.

We are going to be making our very own vegetable stew, looking at the colours of our real vegetables, what colour is a carrot? What shape are potatoes? These are the kind of questions we will be asking.

Please can all parents please sign up for parents evening as soon as possible.

In the Pre-School

Book

In Blue Room 1 we are going to be reading ‘Stickman’, we will be painting with sticks, making stickman with playdough and other resources, we will also be creating stickman paintings.

In Blue Room 2 we are reading ‘Owl Babies’, we will be making our very own nests with sticks and feathers, hopefully we will be using our sticks from the bottom garden. We will also be looking at a habitat map which shows us where various animals live and making puppets of the animals we have found in our book.

In Blue Room 3 we are reading ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, we will be doing lots of activities relating to our book.

Letter/Phoneme

In Blue Room 1 our letter of the week is Cc, Kk In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Nn
In Blue Room 3 our letter of the week is Ee

We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.

Number

In Blue Room 1 our number is 6 In Blue Room 2 our number is 6 In Blue Room 3 our number is 8

Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching, helping your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aid in their mathematical development, in all rooms we will be counting to our number, the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.) Looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.

Skill

In Blue Room 1, 2 and 3 we are looking at patterns, we will be using our peg boards to make our own patters, we will also be using shapes to create patterns reinforcing the shapes we have been looking at over the last few weeks. We will also be using Duplo to make patterns for example a red brick one green brick etc.

Homework sheets for the Pre-School are available in both the rooms and on the door in a plastic wallet. Please ask your room leader for a sheet if you cannot find one.

We look forward to seeing you all pre-school parents at the Christmas Sing Along on the 20th December 2017 Please confirm attendance in the office.
