01/01/2018 – Here’s what we are planning for your children over the next fortnight.

The next two weeks at Stepping Stones.

In the Yellow Room

January 1st – 14th

Over the next two weeks in the yellow room, we will be introducing more sensory play, for example spaghetti and wet sand for all babies to experiment with encouraging them to start making marks, we will also be doing a lot more paintings and pictures for you to take home.

We will be encouraging babies to pull themselves up on to the furniture and to start taking steps using the walkers provided. We will also be exploring treasure baskets and exploratory play.

Al activities are based around the first 100 words and help encourage noise making.

In Red Room

In the next two weeks in the red room we will be focusing on our first 100 words through all our activities. These include musical instruments and singing, we will also be having sensory experiences through foot painting, hand painting and finer painting, these link in to our next steps of finding body parts.

We will introduce our song of the month, ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’. This will also encourage children to join in with others.

Please can any parents with any family photos please bring them into nursery so we can display them in our room, this allows the children to recognise their own families and other children’s families.

In Green Room 1 & 2

In Green Room 1 the words we are taking from the first 100 words are; push, pull, through, next to, shake. We are going to be playing with the cars and bikes, playing the wobbly circle and using musical instruments, we are going to be working on special awareness and gross motor skills.

In Green Room 2 we are going to be doing activities around our first 100 words, for this fortnight they are; up, down, through, shake, over, under, pull, push and throw. We are going to be playing on our roadway, climbing frame and also playing with some lycra!

In the Pre-School

Book

In Blue Room 1 we are going to be reading ‘Rich Witch, Poor witch’, we are going to be making; witch props, potions, crowns and dragon pictures.

In Blue Room 2 we are reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, we are going to make some bear masks and puppets and make our very own porridge.

In Blue Room 3 we are reading ‘Down by the Cool of the Pool’, we are going to be looking at rhyming words, making frog masks and copying the dances from our book.

Letter/Phoneme

In Blue Room 1 our letter of the week is Ee In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Nn In Blue Room 3 our letter of the week is Hh

We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.

Number

In Blue Room 1 our number is 7 In Blue Room 2 our number is 7 In Blue Room 3 our number is 9

Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching, helping your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aid in their mathematical development, in all rooms we will be counting to our number, the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.) Looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.

Skill

In Blue Room 1 we are looking at the different ways we represent numbers, we will be making a favourite toy tally charts, how many boy/girls have we got? Counting songs and many more…

In Blue Room 2 we are looking at length, we will be measuring objects around the room, the height of our children, items outside in our garden etc.

In Blue Room 3 we are going to be looking at weight, we are going to weigh everything we can get our little hands on, from an apple to one of Gary’s hammers.

Homework sheets for the Pre-School are available in both the rooms and on the door in a plastic wallet. Please ask your room leader for a sheet if you cannot find one.

We hope everyone that came enjoyed our Christmas sing-along.
