What is happening at Stepping Stones?
Important Notices
We hope everyone had a brilliant time at our Latest Parent’s Evening last week!
Please can all parents ensure they are calling the nursery if they are bringing their child in late, this is so we can make sure all dietary requirements are met at lunchtimes.
Term time only children will be off nursery from 30th March 2018 and will return on 16th April 2018. Please remember you can book extra sessions in the holiday should you require them.
In the Yellow Room
Over the next two weeks in our baby room, we are celebrating Easter by getting involved in lots of painting activities. We will be finger painting pictures of Easter chicks and Easter eggs. Also to encourage tummy time, we will be making sensory bags, these will be filled with interesting, bright and noisy objects stimulating the children and encouraging them to use their senses whilst developing their core strength.
We will also be making a bubble trail, made out of bubble wrap, the babies will crawl along/play on it, whilst we also blow bubbles for them. This allows the children to develop their sensory experiences also encouraging them to explore the environment they are in using all of their senses.
In Red Room 1 & 2
In the next two weeks in Red Room 1 and 2 we will be focusing on body parts, we will be encouraging the children to have awareness of their own body, we will be doing activities at circle time where we will be singing ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ this will allow the children to interact and learn in a fun way. We will also be doing a variety of activities which are based around Easter, such as decorating eggs, playing with hay and farm animals and a range of creative activities such as hand/foot printing
In Green Room 1 & 2
In Green Room 1 and 2 we are also focusing on Easter, we will be making Easter baskets, hats and head bands and also completing a variety of other creative activities. We will also be focusing on animals, especially the sounds they make and where they live. We will also be exploring real fruit and vegetables again, concentrating on the names of the fruit but also discussing the different textures between each type of fruit.
In the Pre-School

In Blue Room 1 we are going to be reading ‘Peace at Last’, we are going to be playing musical instruments, listening to their sounds. We are also going to be having a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ where we are going to listen to what we can hear in our garden.
In Blue Room 2 we are reading ‘Don’t Call me Sweet’ we will be making our very own monster stew and playdough and even trying to write our own recipes.
In Blue Room 3 we are reading ‘Owl Babies’, we are going to talk about nocturnal animals. We are particularly going to focus on owls however we will also be talking about the sounds other animals make.
Letter/Phoneme
In Blue Room 1 our letter of the week is Gg
In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Mm
In Blue Room 3 our letter of the week is Oo
We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.
Number
In Blue Room 1 our number is 2
In Blue Room 2 our number is 2
In Blue Room 3 our number is 9
Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching, helping your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aid in their mathematical development, in all rooms we will be counting to our number, the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.) Looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.
Skill
In Blue Room 1 we are looking at recognizing and ordering numbers again, we will be making number shakes, number lines and number hands, also making playdough numbers and sorting magnetic numbers into order on our magnetic whiteboards.
In Blue Room 2 our skill is counting, calculation and comparing and sorting numbers, we will be counting different objects, using items such as pegs, animals, blocks and ice we will also be playing a ‘Teddy Bears Picnic’ domino game.
In Blue Room 3 our skill is making tally charts of everyday objects and other ways we can record information/data.
