12/03/2018 – The next two weeks focuses on activities based around Sports Relief.

What is happening at Stepping Stones?

In the Yellow Room

Over the next two weeks in the Yellow Room, we will be celebrating Sports Relief by doing a crawling trail over varied materials, this will encourage the babies to begin to use all their sense. We will also be beginning to make our Easter decorations. We will also be concentrating on tummy time again, as our babies at the moment are of a young age and this aids in building their core strength. To encourage tummy time, we will have a sensory hoop, sensory bags and the babies will also have a mirror beneath them.

We are also looking forward to seeing all our parents at the upcoming parent’s evening to discuss their child’s development.

In Red Room 1 & 2

In the next two weeks in Red Room 1 & 2 we are focusing on sensory play/exploration. We will be using activities such as sensory bags, with a variety of contents such as cornflour, hair gel, oil, water, beans and other crunchy materials. To support using a range of words, for example: soft, hard, small, big, hot and cold.

We will also be singing and dancing, using musical instruments to create both loud and quiet noises. Whilst we are creating music we will also be practicing a range of movements such as jumping up and down, balancing across beams etc. which also links in with our activities in sports week where will be doing lots of physical play both indoors and outside.

In Green Room 1 & 2

In Green Room 1 we will be using real fruit and vegetables in our role play area, exploring the different textures and learning all the names of the fruits. We will also be making a song bag, where each item out of the bag relates to the name of a song, this encourages the children to join in as they sing their favourite songs.

In Green Room 2 we will be practicing our gross motor skills outdoors/indoors, ready for Sports Relief. We will also be making cakes and hats ready to celebrate Easter.

All the children will also be practicing for Sports Relief ready for our parents to come and watch us on Tuesday 20th March.

Please can all parents please sign up for parents evening as soon as possible (21st & 22nd March 2018)

Please can all parents ensure they are calling the nursery if they are bringing their child in late, this is so we can make sure all dietary requirements and ratios are met at lunchtimes.

Term time only children will be off nursery from 30th March 2018 and will return on 16th April 2018. Please remember you can book extra sessions in the holiday should you require them.

In the Pre-School

Book

In Blue Room 1 we are going to be reading ‘Jack & The Beanstalk’, we are going to be making our own beanstalk height chart, box modelling a giant and planting our own beans.

In Blue Room 2 we are reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears, we will be making porridge, creating our own story map and using items from the story to aid in our counting skills.

In Blue Room 3 we are reading ‘Peace at Last’, we will be listening to different sounds and how we identify them.

Letter/Phoneme

In Blue Room 1 our letter of the week is Dd In Blue Room 2 our letter of the week is Rr In Blue Room 3 our letter of the week is Gg

We are all trying to think of lots of things beginning with our letters/the sound it makes, what items do you have at home beginning with our letters? What can you see beginning with our letters on the way to nursery? Can you bring anything in to show us beginning with our letter? We are using our new phoneme bags which are just next to reception, we will also be learning an alliterative rhyme that matches our letter (for example ‘C’ Carol the Cat clicks her castanets). We will also be learning the jolly phonics action.

Number

In Blue Room 1 our number is 1 In Blue Room 2 our number is 11 In Blue Room 3 our number is 8

Talking to your child about these numbers will really reinforce our teaching, helping your child’s ability to recognize numbers and aid in their mathematical development, in all rooms we will be counting to our number, the different ways we can make our number (for example 5 = 3 + 2, 4 + 1, 5 + 0 etc.) Looking at where it is on our number line and which numbers come before and after it.

Skill

In Blue Room 1 we are looking at recognizing and ordering numbers, we will be making number shakes, number lines and number hands.

In Blue Room 2 our skill is counting, calculation and comparing and sorting numbers, we will be counting different objects, using items such as pegs, animals, blocks and ice.

In Blue Room 3 our skill is comparative measuring, we will be creating a height chart of all the children, looking at how the children differ in height and how much someone must grow to be taller than their friends.

Homework sheets for the Pre-School are available in both the rooms and on the door in a plastic wallet. Please ask your room leader for a sheet if you cannot find one.

Please can all parents please sign up for parents evening as soon as possible.
